Vocab question no. 44: two thrust per freeze

Dear All,

I have looked up the word thrust in a number of dictionaries but to no avail. I have also asked my Australian colleague about it and he couldn't figured it out either... What does this sentence mean and what's the meaning of thrust?

In a very cold winter there may actually be two thrusts per freeze.

Thanks
