Vocab question no. 38 (sounds) - rap, knock, thump, punch, flick, poke

Hi All,

I'm having difficulty understanding differences between these words-sounds in English:

rap vs knock
thump vs punch
flick vs poke

Can someone please give me clear-cut difference between 2 words in each pair?

Thanks!

Perfect Stranger Can someone please give me clear-cut difference between 2 words in each pair? Probably impossible. rap vs knock - rapping is more staccato and cannot be as heavy as a knock thump vs punch - a thump produces a hollower sound so is executed into a more resilient surface than a punch, which is more vigorous flick vs poke - a flick is a lighter intrusion; it can also be directed almost parallel to the surface; a poke is perpendicular
