Vocab question no. 10 - railway, roadway, highway (singular/plural)

Dear All,

We all know that highways, expressways, local roads, subway lines, railways are all part of transport infrastructure. Yet, what leaves me a bit perplexed is whether we should refer to them in the singular or plural form.

Thanks
