I think you may be thinking of 'premises' or 'precinct'—but both may be inappropriate.

"Perimeter" is sometimes used loosely in this sense, as in: "Check around the perimeter of the building." Strictly speaking this means the boundary of the property, but it is sometimes used to mean the grounds around the building.
