"I was born in *(Specific date) " is the correct sentence. However I have few Doubts.

I was + verbing - is generally used in past continuous tense.
I + verb in past participle - is generally used in simple past tense.(when specific date/time is mentioned)

Then why is that we use "I was born in *" instead of " I born in * "

and if I do not specify the Date/time, what form of present perfect should I use?
Is "I have born + *" right?

you mean to say that I in " I was born" is the receiver of the action hence is in passive?

I said that it was technically passive. We do not actually think of the baby being the receiver of the action of being born(e). It's just the way we express it in English.

The expression originated when the verb 'bear' was more common in the active sens

AnonymousThen why is that we use "I was born in *" instead of " I born in * "
The verb is "bear" It is irregular. The past is "bore, and the past participle is "born" We do not use the active voice

Active voice sentences:
Mothers bear children. (present = Mothers give birth to children.)
This tree bears both oranges and lemons.
The cow

Anonymous"I was born in *(Specific date) " is the correct sentence.
Has anyone addressed this problem?—

I was born in (specific place).
I was born on (specific date).

Or have I misread the thread?

Hi Micawber,

Yes, we did not address that problem, as we were concentrating more on the tense part of the sentence.

anyways, in in prepositional phrase is used not only for place but also for month, year and on is used not only for date but also for places, objects.

ex:

I was born in April.
I was born on a bed.

correct me if I am wrong.
