visualized/had visualized

Dear members

"Some of greatest leaders and inventors in history visualized/had visualized great things before they actually saw them become a reality."

Could  I use any one of them underline above?

Thanks in advance.

SSY Jung Could I use any one of them underline above? Use the past perfect for emphasis; it is not required in the narrative, because 'before' adequately sets out the order of events.
