visual signs/features

Some birds use visual signs, such as colorful feathers, to attract mates.

Hi,
Is it all right and about the same to say "visual features" instead of "visual signs" in the above? Thanks.

I think that "signs" is better, because it reinforces the idea that the colourful feathers (for example) have the stated purpose. , which you might want to be included. "signals" is another word you could use here.

Also, "features" is a more "static" word that tends to exclude activity such as dancing, shaking of tail feathers, etc., which you might want to be included.
