Visual aids.

I think my computer and I parted company an my last post, so I WILL TRY AGAIN.

The following words have been put into 4 groups. considering the problems that a foreign student might have with meaning, would visual aid be a good way to approach this.

HAIL-SLUSH-SLEET-SNOW. DESK-DRESSING TABLE-CUPBOARD-WARDROBE.

TRUNK-BRANCH-LEAF-TWIG. STAGGEER-STUMBLE-HOP-LIMP.

Considering pronunciation and spelling am I right in thinking that practice and perseverance is the correct method. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
