visited or have visited twice this year

We visited there twice this year.
We have visited there twice this year.

Is the first sentence correct? If so, are there any differences between those?

Thank you.

Both are ok. As far as I can tell, they mean the same thing but by using the second sentence, perhaps, it's more likely that you'll visit that place again this year.
