Vocabulary

visit or go

What is the difference between visit and go? Can you use these words interchangeably in sentences like,
I go to the gym every week.
I visit the gym every week.
I go to museums very often.
I visit museums very often.
When you talk about a building, can you use go to and visit interchangeably?

How about people?
I go to my parents every week.
or
I visit my parents every week.

I think you don't go to somebody. You visit somebody. Do you agree?

Thank you.

'Visit' gives more focus to the consciousness of the act than 'go', which is just a statement of the act. You visit Helen but go to Helen 's "go to Helen" suggests something quite different (some kind of escape or a command to do so). d
