Violet VS purple

There is no difference. They are alternate names for the same color.

The words purple and violet are often used interchangeably, and there is very little (if any) difference between the two. Purple is a color group, and violet is one of the colors in that group. I've heard that too. However, I don't think this difference is crucial for most ordinary uses of the words.

Violet is a wavelength of light past blue in the visual spectrum. It is the shortest wavelength visible to the human eye. Past that is ultraviolet, which we can not normally see. Except, since this is viewed on a screen which mixes other colors to reach the one needed, it isn't violet. It's purple. True violet is its own wavelength. Purple is simply a mixture of blue and red wavelengths.

And then there is mauve which is 'a moderate grayish violet to reddish purple' (AHD).

Additionally, Violet is a "real" color that exists on the electromagnetic spectrum.
