That's wrong. Say:

A thousand people (= 1,000)

or

Thousands of people (= several thousands)

Otherwise, "watched" and "viewed" mean the same thing in that sentence.

Viewed, watched, saw all have the similar connotation. View is slightly formalin my opinion.
