I've been randomly using these three terms since I learn English.

A film and a movie mean the same. Film is mostly used in BrE and movie in AmE, though there is a lot of crossover. They are shown in cinemas (movie theaters) and on TV.

In addition to the other meanings described above, I use the term 'video' for a movie on a DVD.
