They were very surprised to hear that.

Is there anything wrong with the sentence above? I am working on some grammar practices, and I need to correct this one. No clue ... please help.

I found an answer online but not sure- it says it's better to use much surprised in written English.

And please look at the other one:
"I got up this morning very early. "
Is this one fine too? Thanks.

It isn't.
Lcchang"I got up this morning very early. "
It's possible. We would normally say "I got up very early this morning."
