Vocabulary

Versus/are

Hi.
I)" Some literature suggests that neuropsychological profiles might distinguish between those who are delinquent only in adolescence versus those with an early onset and persistent course (http://focus.psychiatryonline.org/article.aspx?Volume=2&page=558&journalID=21#Moffitt-etal-1994),"

So they are distinguishing between:
1-those who are delinquent only in adolescence,
and
2-those with an early onset and persistent course
right?

I thought 'between' only goes with 'and', now I see it going with 'versus'!Is it a right choice?

II)In the text, 'are' means 'become'?
