Verbs tenses - check in.

Hello,

I have been practicing my verb tenses and would really appreciate it if someone could check my answers to a couple of sentences which have caused some degree of doubt.

The car is broken - simple present ?
The cat is amused - present simple ?
The plane takes off at 3 a.m. - simple present ?
I think it's going to rain! - present continuous ?
We'll give you a lift to the cinema - simple future ?
This time next week I'll be sun-bathing. future continuous ?
You'll be seeing John in the office tomorrow, won't you? - future continuous ?

The next few examples cause a couple of problems for me

Smoking will cause cancer
will smoking cause cancer
running will ruin my shoes

my textbook says that future continuous is formed with "will be", these examples don´t have "be", are they still future continuous? I hope so!

OK final sticking point,

My textbook states this formula for the simple past

Subject + did not + infinitive without to,

My question is, what happens if you add "to" to the sentence, e.g.

"They didn´t go to the airport", Is this still simple past?

many thanks

thank you,so, "Smoking will cause cancer, will smoking cause cancer, running will ruin my shoes" - what tense are these?I was also thinking "the baby wont stop crying" - is this future continuous?

There are no tenses as such in your sentences. Forms with the modals (can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, would) are generally not regarded as part of the Rnglish tense/aspect system.

fivejedjonThe car is broken down- simple present ? ... The first is present simple passive.
I don't read it as passive as it stands. I see an inert object in a non-functioning state.
Do you take it as something like "The car is broken down every day by the mechanic"?
