Verbs, structures, and tense functions

Hi. I'm just chasing some ideas on some questions in a TEFL course. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the following sentences:
1. Identify the verb phrase.
2. Name the structure.
3. Label the parts of the structure.
4. Describe the functional meaning conveyed by the verb in the sentence.

1. She can speak Mandarin.
2. The school was founded in 2002.

These are my thoughts...

She can speak Mandarin
1. can speak
2. ?
3. modial verb 'can' + main verb 'speak' (future tense)
4. Information about a persons ability or skill

The school was founded in 2002
1. was founded
2. past simple ....??
3. auxiliary verb 'was' + main verb 'founded' (irregular) (past tense)
4. A newspaper headline or reported event

Thanks in advance Emotion: smile
