I have made a mistake. The actual sentence should be like this:

In many grocery and drugstore chains, sales people ( which are ) employed by the vendor supplying merchandise straighten stock.

Why it should appear as supplying, in... ing form? not supply

This is the analysis I come up with:

In many grocery and drugstore chains,

{sales people ( which who are ) employed by the vendor (who is) supplying merchandise}

Actually, the sales people do supply the merchandise, in a manner of speaking.
So it would be okay to say, "In many grocery and drugstore chains, sales people employed by the vendor [both] supply the merchandise and straighten the stock." (simple present tense)
