Grammar

Verbs fallowed by V+ing

Hi everone,

I am confused about these two sentences. Actually, I couldn't understand this grammatical structure , :

1) We sat drinking and smoking

2) A women woke up thinking she was teenager again ( a news that I read in BBC )

In first sentence, I think it must be " While we were drinking and smoking , we sat "

And in second one , in my opinion,, it must have a come between woke up and thinking ; A women woke up, thinking she was teenager again.

So could you please tell me the difference ? Am thinking that there is a reduction. If so, could you please tell me how did the reduce the sentence - by writing original form. ?

Thank you Emotion: smile
