Verbs ending with "ed" "Coughed"

Hello everyone, so there was this exam in english yesterday, and we had an exercise on verbs ending with ed "the ed rule", and there was the verb "coughed" i would like to know how to pronounce the "-ed" in this cas is it a /t/ or a /d/.
