Verbs

1. Are these sentences correct:



a) "A car was following us, but we managed to throw them off."


b) "A car was following us, but we managed to mislead them."



2. And how about these:


a) "I was being followed in the shopping mall, but I managed to throw him off."


b) "I was being followed in the shopping mall, but we managed to mislead him."



3. Is(are) there any other better verbs(s) to be used in this context:



Note: By this, I mean that 'we' or 'I' managed to get out of our stalkers' sight through cautious moves.
