"These belief systems and philosophies arose in India, but their influence spread across many neighbouring regions."

"These belief systems and philosophies arose in India, but their influence spread across many neighbouring regions."
The use of the two words in bold is right, but "but" is not. The fact that they arose in India hardly makes it surprising that they had influence nearby.
