Hi there,

Would someone be able to confirm if I have highlighted the correct verb or verb group for the following sentence:

'Native English speakers are not often conscious of the rules of grammar.'

I believe the verb group here would be 'Are Often', would this be correct?

Thanks

No. Just 'are'. Adverbs are not included when identifying a verb or verb group. A verb group is, for instance, 'have been running' in 'I have been running faster and faster..'

Hi Mister Micawber,

Thanks for clarifying this, so in this instance then, would this be considered a verb group?
'A volcano in the Pacific can affect the weather in Europe.' both verbs.

Thanks

A volcano in the Pacific can affect the weather in Europe.

Right: 'can affect' is a modal auxiliary + a main verb.
