When referring to any martial art (karate, judo, kung fu, etc) which is normally done in groups, you have to use the verb 'do' with it....I can do karate/ I do karate.
Games that are regular nouns that you play as competitive sports (basketball, badminton, etc) can be used with play (play basketball)
Sports that are nouns and can end with are used with 'go' (go swimming, go skiing, etc.)
