Yes, that's right; it's the name of the martial art. If you want a verb, you'll have to use something like 'I practice karate'. It can be used as an adjective, of course: 'He has a mean karate chop'-- and in that form it can appear in a verb: 'She karate-chopped the masher and he dropped like a stone.'
