Verb with cough

Hi

Could you please tell me the most natural verb with the cough that is abating? How do you find these verbs? Any other suggestions please?

  1. I had a bad cough for about a week, but now it's abating now.
  2. I had a bad cough for about a week, but now it's going away now.
  3. I had a bad cough for about a week, but now it's dying now.

A very common expression

Those don't work for me at all! They each have two "now"s, and I would have expected the present perfect instead of the past simple. Also, I would use, for example, "g
