Verb usage "eludes"

Hello,

I have a queryrelated to an essay marking issue:

1) "...Plath eludes us to the meaning of the poem..."

I recognise a better way of putting this would be to nominalise (Plath's meaning is elusive in the poem) but is the first sentence techically incorrect and why?

Thanks, Clive for putting that so succinctly Emotion: smile

'Plath's meaning eludes us' or nominalised: 'Plath's meaning is elusive.'
