Verb tense

I am having a little issue with verb tense. Is it correct to ensure that there is consistency in tense in the below sentence? Should I change FOUND to HAVE FOUND or FIND?

"By using this analysis, the authors FOUND that vaccine-induced protection IS associated with CD40L expressing Th2 cells and IL-2 secreting Th17 cells. This approach may help us to understand T-cell immunity and protection."

"Found" is fine; "have found" can work if it's a recent discovery; "find" doesn't work. Note also that "by" at the start of the sentence is redundant.
