Verb "set"

Dear Native and Near Native Speakers,
Could you help me in the following:

"A cold wind blows from the River Cauvery and stirs up the edges of the tent, set ON/UP/IN a clearing in the forest"
Which is the right preposition here? (I'd choose ON but the testbook key says IN).
Thank you very much.

"... ") I would actually write it as "set up in a clearing" because we say that a tent is "set up" (or "pitched" - "to pitch a tent"). Unfortunately some test books don't always share my opinions

"... set in a clearing."

In this case, "in" is the same was "within" ("set within a clearing.")
