Verb sequence

Please tell which one below is correct:

1) "I thought it's going to be a nice event"
OR
2) "I thought it was going to be a nice event".

Similarly, which one below is correct:

3) "I wanted to see how we are doing".
OR
4) "I wanted to see how we were doing".

Also, is there any contraction rule for "it was"?
