Vladv after some verbs with prepositions (approve of, depend on,) one can use the object and then verb with -ing It's not the object. The whole expression after the preposition is a gerund clause, and the whole clause is the object of the preposition. The word(s) before the -ing form are the subject of the clause, and if the subject is a pronoun, it's in the possessive or objective case.
