verb placement

Hi, does this sentence sound ok if I place a verb prior to the object (since the sentence is way too long, and it would perhaps be illogical to place the verb at the end of the sentence):

The modernization project was developed for the setup designed to carry out experiments on the synthesis and study of the properties of nuclei.

Thanks in advance.

This is written in passive voice, so the object (the modernization project) naturally comes before the verb (was developed). I would put it into active voice. However, it is not very clear what exactly you want to say.

Does this sentence sound OK in the passive voice?

I'm assuming you take "the modernization project" to be, at least conceptually, the object. Please clarify, because there is no other candidate for "object" in the whole sentence, and "the moderniza

Hi, thanks.
I need it to be written in the passive voice.
I thought the modernization project was a subject, not object though...
The meaning of your sentence corresponds to mine, but I need the passive voice and without "we", "so that", etc.
The meaning is that the modernization/upgrade project was developed. The upgrade project was developed for the installation designed to...

I am unsure whether I can place the verb right after the "modernization project", but not at the end of this sentence, CJ.
I said "prior to the object" because experiments is an object and the verb is prior to it.

Right. I don't really know what you're saying in your question at all.

You want to change this:

The modernization project was developed ...

To this?

Was developed the modernization project ...

Can't do that.

snuppelina experiments is an object and the verb is prior to it.
OK. We're in different parts of the sentence. 'carry out' is the verb and 'experiments' is the object.

Are those the two elements we're talking about?

CJ, thanks.
CJ, since the modernization project is a subject, and I said "prior to the object", this is what I meant:

The modernization project was developed for the setup designed to carry out experiments on the synthesis and study of the properties of nuclei.

The modernization project for the setup designed to carry out experiments on the synthesis and study

snuppelinaI said "prior to the object"
Right. But "for the setup ... nuclei" isn't an object. But that doesn't matter now anyway. I think I understand what you're asking.

The short answer is that you can put "was developed" in either position in that sentence. No matter where you put the verb, though, the sentence is too long and awkward. It's qu

I thought "experiments" was object...

How would you write it then to make it sound better?

snuppelinaI thought "experiments" was object...
It's only the object of the verb "carry out", not the object of "was developed". A passive verb cannot have an object.

I was afraid you might ask this. Let me think about it and get back to you in a few minutes.
