Verb or noun sought...

Dear Native Speakers,

When the two people in a couple spend a lot of time together, in a positive scenario, they are shaping themselves and the other person in a way that with time they become much more efficient in carrying out tasks together, organizing their life etc. After a while, they cooperate better and function together more effectively and smoothly. What expression, noun or verb is there in English which refers to this process?

What is happening to the 2 people? Could you, please, help me? Thank you.Emotion: thinking

You could say they make a good team.

Strictly speaking... Anon asked for the process of deepening relationship, rather than the end result.

I wonder what word would best describe that
