Verb name

1.He wants me to do the work.

2.He likes me to write the letter.

Above in two sentences, I can see a new relationship of the verbs- want, like with object- me. So What kind of these verbs are? Have they any name?

Top answer

He wants me to do the work. Catenative verbs are special verbs that can be followed by an infinitive or gerund. This is a good reference on these verbs and how to use them.

1) This sentence is fine.

2) Why not just say "He wants me to write the letter" or "He would like me to write the letter."

He likes it when I write letters is much easier.
