Vocabulary

verb + jealousy

Hello,
According to Ngram these sentences sound fine:
- She was racked by jealousy when she say her ex with his new girlfriend.
- She was overwhelmed by jealousy when she saw her ex with his new girlfriend.
I think they are fine too. What would you normally say?

I even thought of "engulf", but it's not used in that collocation according to ngram. Macmillan Dictionary defines it as: "if a thought or emotion engulfs you, it controls your thoughts or feelings".

We much more commonly say more mundane things like 'She was very jealous';.

No doubt about that, Clive. Emotion: smile Thank you.
