verb-ing and to-infinitive
hi,everyone,i met such this sentence:
correct the sentence
water-skiing can be expensive and one way of reducing this is joining a club
the answer is joining (joining,here,is wrong) ,it should be to join instead of joining,but i don't understand why the word joining is wrong? plz help me

Hello Green89 Your question is very difficult to answer. It is true people use 'to join' much more often than 'joining' as the complement of 'way is'. For example if you google all the domains for 'way is to use' and 'way is using', you will get 220,000 hits for the former and only 16,000 hits for the latter.
