Verb Forms
Hey,
I wrotte the text but I'm not sure about the verb forms, could anyone give a look into it and see if the verb forms are correct?

During the last two decades, however, the desert (reclaim) has reclaimed ( present perfect ?)Timbuktu.
There (be) has been ( present perfect?)drought here for the past 15 years; for the past four years it (be) had been (perfect?) increasingly severe and this year the area (have) has (Present )only half as much rain as in the previous year. The sands (move) have moved (perfect?) south. Every year the encroachment (continue) continues (present?).
Now the desert (sweep) swept (perfect?) around the town and (surround) had surrounded (perfect?) it entirely.
Occasionally it is possible to glimpse beneth the dust the baked clay surface of what was once a fertile loam, but that is rare.
Huge dunes of sand (creep) creeps onwards, thousands of tons at the rate of 20 mile a year.
The fine white dust (fall) falls imperceptibly from the havens.
Twenty year ago it (be) was possible to arrive in Timbuktu by boat along a canal dug from the Niger river.
