Verb forget

Hello everyone!

I'm not sure about using the "forget" verb.

What's the difference between following sentences:

I forgot to close the door. (yesterday?)

I've forgotten to close the door. (just realized?)

The second sentence doesn't sound natural. I'd say "I just realized that I forgot to close...".

"I've forgotten to close the door many times" would be fine.

I like your screen name: nice combination of Russian greats!
