Verb class

It is easy to see how these verbs have some features in common ; jump, knock, blink, hit etc.

As with the verb 'finish' some article suggests it be impossible for above verb types to be a complement to 'finish'.

e.g. Kelly finished blinking.*

and it does appear to be just accpetable to my eyes based on the possible interpretation that 'blinking' here is meant to be a repetitive action.

Why my guess is to be unthinkable?

Your guess and the article you read are both very wrong. We can easily finish performing any action, repetitive or not: we can finish jumping, finish knocking, finish blinking, finish hitting, and finish any action I can think of (though it is hard to finish smoking, I admit). Burn the article.

Thank you for your anwer,
Maybe I'd better do that.
But still I'm afraid that there are many materials in which indicate so-called semelfactives cannot be a complement to the verb 'finish'.
A following site is one of them(it's not the article that I refer to,though) : http://www.sfu.ca/pe

Well, that page would confuse me, too. I'm not even going to read all of that gobbledygook.

Thanks for the reply.
Then this, my question has to do with somewhat stuffy matter that even native speakers could hardly distinguish.
So from the point of practical view, it is weird of me to ask this question, I admit it.
But the reverse side of the view,as a student, I wish to be informed of this matter.

It is easy to quiet. First, ask yourself why you are smoking. For example, some people say when I'm angry, or when I need to think or when I'm tied, I smoke. Then, ask yourself how did you manage in the past when you were in the same condition but you were not a smoker. Finally, you can switch to nicotine replacement medicines like gum, a patch to forget the habit of taking a cigarette between

Hi there, it seems to be very useful advice for the smokers, though I am not a smoker,
then it could be more useful if suggested for the original topic, I hope so
