With the wide deployment of wireless technologies and infrastructures, vehicular networks (VANET) have achieved rapid development in recent years. However, vehicular communications will be exposed to frequent link failures, complex link reconstructions and long end-to-end delays due to the lack of collaboration among heterogeneous access networks. In this article, we propose a new Hybrid-Aware Multipath Collaboration Scheme for Vehicular networks, named HMCS-V. Firstly, we describe a novel method to accurately evaluate the paths weight. Then, we present a hybrid-aware path collaboration mechanism based on the above paths weight. In particular, the one or multiple paths may be motivated to dynamically serve different applications with the multipath collaboration mechanism. Finally, extensive simulations show that HMCS-V significantly reduces transmission delay and improves the packet transmission reliability in heterogeneous vehicular networks.
