Vegetable patch? I grow vegetable in garden

Question

What comes to you when you hear 'vegetable patch?'

If it is not correct, what would you call an area that you(or farmers[please answer this two:you(small farming) and farmers] grow vegetable?

And you if you take care of vegetable for your side dishes(not selling), you say, 'I grow vegetable,' don't you? (any other expressions?)

I grow/raise my own vegetables. (for my own use)

The adjective would usually be singular and the noun would usually be plural.

The phrase was used in a children's story book I once had. (There was also a famous briar patch.)

Generally speaking, "a patch of corn" would be smaller than "a field of corn."

I think of a "patch" as a plot of land perhaps an acre or considerably smaller which is devoted to a single purpose, eg, "blueberry patch."

To me, both "vegetable patch" and "vegetable garden" mean about the same thing. One would expect to find a good variety of vegetables growing for the family's use. The owner could be a factory worker or a dairy farmer.

If he's in the business of raising produce, he might have one field devoted to cauliflower and another to cabbage. Or he might raise only mellons. That is, a given patch or field would not be planted with a variety of vegetables.

My question is since you didn't correct my sentence 'What comes to you when you hear ~~,' there's no significant error in it?

Are 'What comes to your mind when~' and 'what comes to you when~' the same?

Yes. I used to. But since the last update of the system, the strike-out feature doesn't work anymore (though they will eventually get it fixed), so it's not easily done anymore. So lately I haven't been consistent about correcting the part in quotes. Sorry about that. Once they get that fixed I will try to remember to make those corrections.
