Vegan (question about word formation)

Hi,

I understand vegan is a derivative of vegetarian?

VEGetariAN -> VEGAN

Could somebody please give me more examples like this?

(I mean examples where a new word is formed by removing some letters from (the middle of ) the original word, leaving a few lead and tail letters intact (*). Note that veterinarian -> vet, veteran -> vet or professor -> prof etc., should be excluded from consideration as no tail letters remain in the derivative nouns.)
