Veg & pure veg

Sometimes people eat some animal products, which is not a purely vegetarian (i.e. plant-based) diet. The main examples are eggs and/or dairy products. Usually, meat and other animal products are not eaten by vegetarians.

As the terms are currently used (in the U.S.), someone who eats no meat, poultry or fish is a vegetarian. If the pure vegetarian is in the context of the Buddhist pure vegetarian, it is a vegetarian diet excludes onions, garlic, chives, spring onions, leeks and sometimes even gingers. It may or may not exclude diary and eggs. It excludes all animal meats including fish.

In Chinese the word "chun sushi" the literal meaning is "pure vegetarian" but meaning "vegan". For a person with a Chinese cultural background he would think that "pure vegetarian" is "vegan". But in the west and other places people are defining in different ways.
