Vocabulary

vaulted archway

What is a vaulted archway? I've looked up the meanings of vault and archway but I can't figure out the difference between the two. I found "vaulted archway" in Dan Brown's novel "The Da Vinci Code." Please explain the meaning of the words to me.

Thank you!

I would understand it to be an archway with a vaulted ceiling. The photo below depicts a typical vaulted ceiling (there are various different architectural styles), so I would imagine something like this but shorter, so as to form an archway rather than a cloister.
