I intent to write an e-mail to my boss somtime this week but I am not sure whether I should write option 1 or option 2 below. I would prefer to sound casual.
1- I would like to go on vacation from February 15^th thru February 27^th. Please let me know if that is all right with you.
2- I would like to ask for your approval of my vacation time from February 15^th to February 27^th.

One minor point: As it is a formal letter, the word 'thru' should be written as 'through'.
