Vacation

I'm visiting New York and someone online from Africa asks me:

('cause I had moved to africa but visiting NY for the time being)

How long have you been here(Africa)?

and I respond with:

I've been living in Africa for almost a year. - Is this correct, since I'm presently not in Africa but in New York.

Please correct, thanks!
