Question

Has anybody seen the movie va vis deviens?  it was translated to english as Live and Become. Definetly the best movie I have  seen in 2005... If only my french was better

I haven't seen it. What's it about? Hello Woodward,

It was a great movie about immigration, assimilation, identity search, war-peace, love and etc. The US and Israeli government decide to bring Jews of Ethiopia to with a secret operation. The movie starts with this scene from one of those refugee camps in where people suffer from famine and illnesses. One night secret service people come to take the Jews from that camp to . A Christian mother wakes up his 9 year old son and tells him to go with the Jews. The boy doesn’t want to go and leave his mom behind. But her mom insists him to go. She tells him to go, live and become (va, vis et deviens). And the boy leaves holding the hand of a Jewish mother who has just lost his son. When they arrive in , that Jewish mother also dies. And Scholomo gets adopted by a French family. Then we witness his life from 9 to I guess late twenties. His identity crises, search for his mom, not grasping the difference between his new life in Israel, and the life he had left behind, his love and him never being able to say out loud who he really is. It was such a beautifully told story with some real history on the background. It made me cry a lot and smile a lot. And the ending…..the ending…

Believe me I mentioned very little about that movie. It ran more than two hours and there is a lot more to tell… It was a lovely pro-peace movie. Definitely recommended.
