V-ing + V-ing

Hello! Can we use 2 -ing forms together: "We have been practising using the gerund the whole day", "He was going on reading a book"? or We should use the infinitive of the 2nd verbs : "We have been practising to use the gerund the whole day", "He was going on to read a book"?

Thank you
