V. and vs.

I have seen the abbreviation v. used in legal documents, but most often seen vs. in other venues. What is the difference between the two abbreviations for versus?

Top answer

The word versus appears so often in legal documents that a simple v. is used to abbreviate it. Eliminating that "s" saves millions of keystrokes.

There's no difference. Either one will do. Many Britons drop the full stop after v and vs.
