'usually' in past sentence??

Hello, am having trouble using 'usually' and 'sometimes' in a past sentence..
can i say" Sometimes I woke up upset, grumpy or depressed maybe, and sometimes it controlled me and stopped me from hiding it with laughter and jokes. I usually got out of it after a couple of days, but at the time of the story, it took a little longer."
is it possible to use 'sometimes' and 'usually' in simple past??
